MSG, None for Me – Nasty Dye’s, Just say Goodbye Part One

It is so important to protect your family from Toxic Food Additives.

Ive been on a mission for many years to make families aware of the perils that are hiding on the shelves of our grocery stores.  If you are like me you make a point to not allow junky food items into your home.  Or maybe you do because you don’t know any better.  That’s OK. Change takes time.

Living in a way that is healthy and avoiding toxins and chemicals is a learning experience but if you’re dedicated and care about your health and your family’s health you can and will overcome the junk!

It may seem too overwhelming, just take little baby steps and every day try to eliminate one bad thing from your diet and before you know it you will be on the road to a healthier more vibrant you!

There are so many ingredients that are absolutely toxic for us and cause all sorts of health issues but for the sake of this article and the next one that will follow, I will stick to just 2 of these evil offenders.

As a side note.  For those of you interested in the full list I will soon make available to subscribers an exclusive eBook entitled “Food The New Poison – What on Earth am I Eating”. So stay tuned.

I so dislike being the whistleblower but someone’s got to say something.

Drum roll, please……

Let’s start with MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) a widely used flavor enhancer.  Used in everything from so-called healthy chips to jello to that cheap noodle soup in a cup I used to eat over 11 yrs ago because I was in the dark.  It can also be found in infant formulas and things that are labeled as Organic.

So what’s the big deal anyway?  You see, MSG is an excitotoxin, which is a substance that overexcites your neurons to the point of cell damage and, eventually, cell death.  It has been known to cause serious asthma attacks in children, severe migraines, heart palpitations, obesity, hyperactivity in children and the list goes on and on.  Meanwhile, we are drugging our kids for ADD and ADHD without even thinking that MSG removal from their diet and removal of environmental toxins could possibly eliminate the problem.

Now that you know a little about MSG, take a break from reading this article and watch this excellent report done by 60 Minutes. When you’re done come back.

Did it surprise you that the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) classified MSG as a food ingredient and has deemed it “generally recognized as safe.” Now, why on earth would they say that?  Here is why.  By FDA definition, all MSG is “naturally occurring.” “Natural” doesn’t mean “safe.”  “Natural” only means that the ingredient started out in nature.

Aha, now that’s comforting.  So because petroleum is naturally occurring I can make a food product laced with petroleum and call it food because after all, it’s naturally occurring.  I don’t know about you but that just scares me. Oh wait, this already happens in the cosmetic industry. Fragrances in perfumes are made with ingredients derived from petrochemicals. Although we don’t eat fragrances they are still absorbed via our skin and can cause unwanted health symptoms.

So what is a person to do?

Be a mafia super spy that’s what.  Ok I am obviously over-exaggerating but you get the point.  You almost have to take on a mafia mentality to protect yourself these days.  My best advice to you is to read EVERYTHING.

If you come across some ingredients in the labels you don’t understand then pick up a copy of this book entitled A Consumer’s Dictionary of Food Additives

It will help you understand every ingredient in food today, where it came from what it does etc..  This book is truly amazing.  We often take it with us to the store believe it or not.

  1. Thanks Chica for this. I know my Cardiologist had told me to stop eating Chinese food and things with MSG but I was just looking for the words Monosodium Glutamate in the labels. I had to idea that they were hiding it under these ingredients. As usual your on the ball, thanks again sister!

  2. OMG. This is just nasty. I had no idea. I always heard that Chinese food was bad for me because of some ingredient I could not pronounce but I never looked into it. Thank you for this and I look forward to the second part.

  4. What about foods that naturally contain msg like tomatoes, onions, spinach, green peas, cabbage, and broccoli?

    1. I don’t worry about the naturally occurring glutamic acid in food.
