Ear infections and ear pain can be extremely uncomfortable, especially for little ones. At home we have used this remedy for many years along with organic mullein and garlic oil in the affected ear. Before moving forward I must state that it is very important that you discuss your concerns with your family practitioner or naturopathic doctor before trying any natural remedy especially if frequent infections are occurring. If frequent infections are occurring it can be a sign of a more serious issue. It can also be due to toxic mold exposure so pay attention.
A great way to relieve pain in the ear is to apply an onion poultice or you can also use dried herbs like chamomile, yarrow, echinacea and thyme. Just mix equal parts of each herb with some water. Heat on the stove for one minute, once cooled place inside a cotton mulsin bag, squeeze out any liquid and apply to affected area
To make an onion poultice all you have to do is cut an onion in half, then heat a little organic olive oil in a pan and place the onion (cut side down) on the olive oil. Cover with a lid and heat over medium heat for 2 minutes or until the onion is heated through and becomes softer. Place the onion in a clean dishcloth or t-shirt, and cool for just a minute so that it will not burn the skin. Lay down and place the onion over the ear firmly for 10 minutes. Some of the oil will seep through which is not a problem. Doing this poultice will allow the onion fumes to enter the ear and soothe the affected ear drum.
At home I also make organic garlic and mullein oil and place in the ear when I feel an infection or irritation coming on. I can’t tell you how many times this has prevented ear infections in our family.
