Ear infections and ear pain can be extremely uncomfortable, especially for little ones. At home, we have used this remedy for many years along with organic mullein and garlic oil in the affected ear. Before moving forward I must state that it is very important that you discuss your concerns with your family practitioner or doctor before trying any natural remedy especially if frequent infections are occurring. If frequent infections are occurring it can be a sign of a more serious issue. It can also be due to a hidden infection or toxic mold exposure so pay attention.
Onion To The Rescue
A great way to relieve pain in the ear is to apply an onion over the ear. You can also use dried herbs like chamomile, yarrow, echinacea, and thyme. Just mix equal parts of each herb with some water. Heat on the stove for one minute, once cooled place inside a cotton muslin bag, squeeze out any liquid and apply to the affected area.
To use onion for ear ailments, all you have to do is cut an onion in half, then heat a little organic olive oil in a pan and place the onion (cut side down) on the olive oil. Cover with a lid and heat over medium heat for 2 minutes or until the onion is heated through and becomes softer. Place the onion in a clean dishcloth or t-shirt, and cool for just a minute so that it will not burn the skin. Lay down and place the onion over the ear firmly for 10 minutes. Some of the oil will seep through which is not a problem. Doing this will allow the onion fumes to enter the ear and soothe the affected eardrum.
Garlic & Mullein Drops
At home, I also make organic garlic and mullein oil and place in the ear when I feel an infection or irritation coming on. I can’t tell you how many times this has prevented ear infections in our family.
If you are not feeling up to making your own oil you can purchase one made by Herb Pharm . These drops are available on Vitacost and many other health food stores.
Another homeopathic product we have tried in previous years is Hyland’s earache drops also available on Vitacost.
Lymphatic Massage & Release Techniques
Lastly, a lymphatic massage can be very helpful during an ear infection, sinus congestion, headache, and sore throat. Its also extremely important to do on a daily basis if you’ve been exposed to toxic mold and other contaminants. Making sure that our lymph is moving is extremely important as stagnation leads to sickness.
We have approximately 700 lymph nodes in our body. Did you know that one third of those are from the brain and neck? Wow, I think that might be an important clue that we need to get our lymph moving!
If your brain is inflamed because of toxic mold, chemical exposures, TBI, PANS, Autism etc., learning new things, focusing and remembering will become difficult. An inflamed brain can’t function adequately.
That’s why it’s so important to move the lymph via release techniques and gentle massage. Sleeping is also extremely important because that is when our glymphatic system (the brain’s lymphatic system) is turned on. While we are awake it doesn’t do much.
The glymphatic system is a metabolic waste clearance system. Its also responsible for facilitating the distribution of certain compounds like neuromodulators, glucose, amino acids, lipids and more. Making sure these systems are working efficiently is essential for healing.

**Please note that I have a little more experience in this area than the average person. Studying herbs and learning about plant medicine from my grandmother and father definitely helps me feel confident about preparing and using remedies like the one mentioned above. If you have a concern you should always check with your practitioner or family doctor and get their approval before using herbal remedies at home.
