“The family stress is through the roof with this syndrome (PANS/PANDAS) — by some measures (it is) higher than kids who’ve been diagnosed with leukemia.”
Susan Swedo, MD
I feel Dr. Swedo’s quote so deeply. The stress is traumatic and destabilizing, to say the least.
Families who have children with inflammatory brain conditions and neuroimmune conditions like PANS/PANDAS, types of Autoimmune Encephalitis (AE), suffer so much, often with zero support.
If you know a family caring for children with moderate to severe PANS/PANDAS please reach out, and help them any way you can.
The helplessness parents feel can be extremely overwhelming and crippling.
No parent wants to see their child wither away and become a shell of the person they were.
The stress gets even more overwhelming when parents can’t afford medical care or are brushed off by their pediatricians.
Obtaining an appointment for a child with a debilitating condition to be seen by a qualified doctor shouldn’t cost the parent thousands of dollars.
Likewise, recognizing the symptoms of Autoimmune Encephalitis shouldn’t only be something a parent can do. All medical practitioners should have enough common sense to look at the published literature before gaslighting their patients.
PANS/PANDAS families need support, financial assistance, and access to affordable medical care. No child should have to suffer because their parents cannot afford to pay for medical help.
No parent should have to be humiliated by a medical professional or accused of Munchausen syndrome.
In the case of injury due to toxic mold exposure, no child should have to suffer because their rental or military home is damaging their immune system and brain.
Things must change!
We must do better, for our children and for all future generations!
With Love,
Chemical Free Gal
What is Autoimmune Encephalitis, PANS/PANDAS?
In plain Jane terms, it’s brain inflammation caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking the brain. It can be triggered by viral infections, toxic mold exposure, injury, underlying infections, tumors, cancer, and other unknown causes.
